Innovation is at the heart of value creation and it is increasingly important for improving performance and competitiveness. However, managing innovation is not easy or automatic. This paper examines innovative organisations to understand the different types of innovation and the processes involved in developing and managing them successfully.

The teaching and learning objectives for this paper focus on developing knowledge, skills and abilities in the strategic management of innovations. Case studies and experiential internet-based exercises will be used to evaluate the innovation concepts and how innovation processes work in practice. As there are no tutorials for this paper, all of the classes will include interactive activities and finish with an online Moodle quiz. Attendance at class and participation in the cases and exercises is very important to achieve the learning goals.
